Start your day early as we journey north to the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens, located just outside of Newcastle. On arrival, enjoy a welcoming Devonshire Tea before heading off to explore the grounds.
Covering 140 hectares, these gardens are a haven of native Australian flora, with a strong focus on conservation and education. Much of the site has been preserved as natural bushland, and it is a place of deep cultural significance to the Woromi people, the original custodians of this land.
Established in 1986 and run by a passionate team of volunteers, the gardens feature an impressive range of theme gardens showcasing Australian plants, including:
-
Acacias
-
Banksias and Grevilleas
-
Native succulents
-
Hunter Region eucalypts
-
Boronias, hakeas, and prostantheras
-
Australian rainforest species
-
Proteas of South Africa
-
Local water plants, cycads, palms, and ferns
Enjoy a light lunch featuring a selection of fresh sandwiches at the on-site café, followed by additional free time to stroll through the gardens at your own pace, take photos, or relax among the natural beauty of this peaceful retreat.
Whether you’re a keen gardener, nature lover, or simply after a serene day out, this tour offers something for everyone.
