Experience tranquility, history, and breathtaking scenery at your own pace on the Chapel Hill Retreat & Gardens Journey—a self-guided day of peace, beauty, and discovery.

Begin your visit at the serene Chapel on the Hill and Gardens of Peace in Berambing. This nondenominational chapel, built in 1994 by the late Jack Plane, was designed as a place for quiet reflection, meditation, and spiritual contemplation for people of all cultures and backgrounds. The striking feature of the chapel is its floor-to-ceiling stained glass window, made from thousands of hand-cut coloured glass squares that create a dazzling, luminous effect.

You’ll have time to wander through the surrounding gardens at your leisure. Once an untamed paddock, these gardens have been transformed into beautifully landscaped grounds with panoramic views across Wheeny Gap and the Blue Mountains. Informational signs throughout the property share the story of the Chapel’s creation and its historical connections, including Bulgamatta, the neighbouring homestead first settled in 1830 by Lieutenant George Meares Countess Bowen.

After your garden stroll, relax with a two-course lunch in the reception area, where you can enjoy uninterrupted mountain views as you dine.

The afternoon continues with a scenic stop at Bilpin Fruit Bowl, where you can browse fresh local produce, seasonal fruit, and homemade treats before heading home—making this a perfect day of self-paced exploration in the stunning Blue Mountains region.
