Travel with us to the beautiful Southern Highlands for an immersive visit to the Bowral Honey Farm—a working apiary set on the grounds of the historic National Trust property, Retford Park.
Your experience begins with a one-hour guided tour that includes a fascinating talk alongside the hives. Wearing a protective head veil, you’ll safely observe the bees in action and learn about their remarkable lifecycle and essential role in pollination. The tour continues with a demonstration of an (empty) Flow Hive, offering insight into the workings of a modern beehive and sustainable honey harvesting.
Following the tour, make your way to the terrace of the former drawing studio of James Fairfax, where panoramic views stretch across an ornamental lake and the rolling Bowral countryside. Here you’ll be treated to a guided honey tasting of six distinct floral source honeys—each with its own unique aroma, flavour, and texture. Morning tea is served alongside: fresh sourdough bread with your choice of leaf tea or plunger coffee.
Your visit concludes with a light lunch on the terrace, featuring shared platters of assorted sandwiches and wraps, complemented by a fresh fruit platter and the honey tasting’s signature freshly baked scones.
In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive through the Highlands or a stop in Bowral village before returning home.
